Kansas City, MO, June 27, 2017 – Nationally-recognized design and planning firm Gould Evans has been selected by the City of Olathe, Kansas to design the new Indian Creek Library, which will be located at 16001 W. 135th Street. The estimated 46,000 square-foot project will provide Olathe citizens with a state-of-the-art facility to serve as a center for discovery, collaboration and community gatherings.
In July of 2016 the City purchased a grocery store, originally constructed in 1994, with a vision to re-purpose it as a modern, 21st century library that will inspire generations of Olathe citizens in the years to come.
“The Indian Creek Library is vitally important to this community,” said Mayor Michael Copeland. “We’re excited to work with Gould Evans to transform this space into a library of the future; a signature community gathering place that offers opportunities to learn and discover for people of all ages.”
Gould Evans was recognized for its extensive experience and award-winning work on library and adaptive re-use projects, including the:
• The Lawrence Public Library, Lawrence, Kansas
• Johnson County Central Resource Library (the original design), Overland Park, Kansas
• Palo Verde Library, Phoenix, Arizona
• New Orleans Public Libraries, New Orleans, Louisiana
• Center for Missouri Studies, Columbia, Missouri
“We’re thrilled to be the City of Olathe’s design partner on this project, helping them transform an abandoned building into an innovative, welcoming space,” said Sean Zaudke, Associate Principal with Gould Evans. “The design of the new library will focus on creating a civic hub that every citizen can benefit from, which is a testament to the Olathe Public Library’s dedication to meeting the community’s ever-evolving needs.”
San Francisco based firm Group4 led the master planning and programming for this project and will be assisting with the planning and interior design of the new library. Design work is set to begin soon, and construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2018.
